Top Class Teams Hit Carrickfergus for the Ladies International Football Festival 2010

The 2010 Carrickfergus International Ladies Football Festival was launched with home grown talent and ex Northern Ireland International Michael Hughes announcing the draw.

The tournament, which is in its eighth year this year will run from the 14-18 July in Carrickfergus hosting 12 teams from local and national level, including defending champions Keynsham Ladies and newcomers Manchester City.

Speaking at the launch Michael Hughes commented, “Despite the differences physically, technically, I believe there is very little difference between men and women’s soccer and I’m sure most people who watch ladies football would agree.

I myself know the importance of gaining experience by practicing against top level teams and the Ladies Football Festival here in Carrickfergus affords this opportunity to players, giving women’s football the best chance continually grow throughout the province. Having began my footballing career here I am delighted to see the positive impact the Festival has on the Borough and on women’s football.”

New Mayor of Carrickfergus, Alderman Jim McClurg spoke at the launch as one of his first civic engagements, stating, “We are delighted to be hosting the Carrickfergus Ladies Football Festival again this year as it guarantees skilful and hard fought matches with top quality players and works as an economic and tourism driver attracting visitors to the Borough and giving them a taste of what Carrickfergus has to offer.”
